Hello, I'm Mitsuko Burks and I am a compassionate and experienced Associate Marriage and Family Therapist and Associate Professional Clinical Counselor committed to empowering individuals on their journey toward healing and personal growth. I hold a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from National University and have a proven track record of supporting diverse populations through individualized care and evidence-based interventions. I am also a Registered Substance Use Disorder Counselor.

I provide trauma-informed, culturally responsive counseling to individuals, children and their families with co-occurring disorders. My clinical work integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement and Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure (PE), Grief and Loss Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing (MI), to support clients in navigating challenges, building resilience, and achieving meaningful recovery goals.

I am highly skilled in conducting assessments, developing treatment plans, and delivering individual and group therapy. I am deeply committed to creating a safe, supportive therapeutic environment and have experience in crisis intervention, case management, and collaborative care with interdisciplinary teams. I enjoy working with adults, children, families, couples, and elderly adults.

Prior to my clinical work, I served in the United States Navy for eight years, where I held leadership roles in logistics and operations. A proud U.S. Navy veteran, my personal journey in service continues to inspire my professional path. My time in the military instilled a deep respect for discipline, sacrifice, and the unique challenges faced by service members and their families. I am especially passionate about supporting veterans, active-duty personnel, and first responders, offering a therapeutic space where they can feel understood, valued, and empowered to heal. My approach honors the strength and complexity of military life while addressing the mental health impacts of trauma, transition, and reintegration.
